The “La Boella” estate has a well-documented history, which has recently been confirmed.
The name appears to have come from a Muslim, Bu-Alla (Boella), after whom the farm where the present-day building now stands was named. We find the first historical reference to “La Boella” in mediaeval times when the area was donated by Prince Robert the Norman. A manuscript dated 7 March 1150 confirms that the Prince of Tarragona bestowed the land on Huch and his wife, Eva, so that they could cultivate it.
“La Boella” has always played an important role in the agricultural and social life of the surrounding area and some of its wines (they used to cultivate vines here) even won awards in Vienna in 1873 and at the Barcelona Universal Exhibition of 1888.
